Atlanta residents can expect a shift from overcast skies to sunnier days ahead, but not without a significant drop in temperature. The forecast for today promises a gradual clearing up, with highs peaking at a chilly 41 degrees, accompanied by strong northwest winds that could reach up to 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The biting cold isn't stopping anytime soon. Tonight, temperatures are expected to plummet to around 18 degrees, presenting a particularly frosty evening with sustained northwest winds and gusts potentially hitting 25 mph. But the weekend ushers in abundant sunshine despite the continuing chill. Saturday's temperatures are forecasted to hover around a brisk 31 degrees, and by nightfall, it will drop to around 15. The north wind, stubborn in its persistence, will blow at a speed of 10 to 15 mph.
The outlook for Sunday shows a warmer trend, with the mercury set to rise near the 40-degree mark under clear sunny skies. A gentle north wind at around 5 mph will shift eastward as the day progresses, making conditions more bearable. Going into the week, Monday's forecast is even more promising with a peak at a near 50-degree high under mostly sunny skies.
The reprieve from the cold seems to be short-lived as new weather patterns roll in by midweek. Cloud cover will make a comeback by Monday night, with lows around 37 degrees, ushering in a chance for showers beginning on Tuesday. "A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1pm," notes the forecast, with temperatures expected to reach 55. The likelihood of precipitation ramps up by Tuesday night to 60 percent, increasing to a 70-80 percent chance of showers and possible thunderstorms from Wednesday well into Thursday.
Atlanta's weather roller coaster is gearing up for a noticeable shift with predictions of warmer, yet wetter, days ahead. Highs will potentially rise to 68 by Thursday; however, residents should keep their umbrellas handy as an 80 percent chance of showers threatens to dampen the day. The capriciousness of Georgia's winter weather continues, as sunny days make way for impending storms later in the week.
