A 19-year-old from Buford has been slapped with charges for allegedly spearheading illegal street races in Gwinnett County. The suspect, Matthew Dylan McCullock, was nabbed by authorities on Jan. 11, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. McCullock is believed to have not just participated in, but also to have actively organized the high-speed events that have now caught the full attention of local law enforcement.
In a determined effort to slam the brakes on vehicular hooliganism, Gwinnett County police allege McCullock was the brains behind a meetup that unfolded March 11, 2023, near the Old Norcross Road, and another massive gathering on Dec. 23 that turned a parking lot into a sea of some 500 cars. As reported by Hoodline, the latter event featured not just a convergence of 'clean whips and good vibes' but also stunt driving that piqued police activity.
Authorities are cracking down hard on such gatherings, with the Gwinnett County Police Department issuing charges against McCullock for organizing these races and for being a participant or spectator. "We want to stop that, and we want to make sure that, you know, that's not allowed in Gwinnett County. Illegal street racing is not going to be tolerated," Gwinnett County Police Department Cpl. Juan Madiedo told FOX 5 Atlanta. The consequences are serious — a $1,000 fine and possible jail time up to six months.
During a search at McCullock's residence, officers discovered a modified Kia Forte stamped with 'P85'. McCullock, wearing a Project 85 hoodie, initially gave elusive answers to police but eventually admitted to creating Project 85 LLC and peddling related merchandise. He claimed it to be a collective effort, but detectives reviewing body cam footage concluded that he was the main figure behind the Instagram account 'Project 85' used to organize these events. As per Hoodline's findings, despite his attempted to downplay personal involvement, evidence mounted against McCullock's role as an event organizer.
With the charges now filed, Gwinnett County's stance remains firm — illegal street racing, a hobby rapidly accelerating in popularity yet fraught with danger, will face zero tolerance. Meanwhile, as McCullock confronts the legal ramifications, police continue their push to send a stern message that this type of lawlessness won't fly on their watch.
