The State of California is cracking down on what's becoming an epidemic of high-end heists. Attorney General Rob Bonta recently announced the charging of a trio implicated in a Bay Area retail crime spree. The flashy burglaries and attempts spanned from September to November 2023 and resulted in losses north of $650,000 for the victimized businesses.

These brazen burglaries were meticulously coordinated by the suspects, who went to great lengths to evade capture, including ramming police vehicles and injuring an officer in their flight. According to the Attorney General's Office, the charges include grand theft and second-degree burglary.

"Organized retail theft harms businesses, retailers, and consumers – and puts the public at risk," said Attorney General Rob Bonta. The multi-agency investigation involved local police departments and the FBI which have worked together in a determined push to bring the suspects to justice.

A series of high-octane burglaries define the alleged crime spree. One notable incident at a Louis Vuitton store where suspects used a stolen vehicle to smash their way in and remove more than $240,000 worth of goods. Another bold maneuver involved the theft of ATMs, with suspects targeting a Chevron station and a smoke shop. In their determination to track these criminals down, the Walnut Creek Police Chief, Jamie Knox, said, "Walnut Creek detectives worked diligently and thoroughly on this investigation," ensuring the complex case reached a successful conclusion.

The suspects were arraigned at the Contra Costa County Superior Court, facing a litany of charges. While definitive legal outcomes await, the presumption of innocence remains, though the evidence appears to be stacking up against them.
