The US Coast Guard made a splash in Miami this Tuesday, dropping off more than $32 million worth of sea-hustled heat. Following decisive ops on the Caribbean's smuggling routes, over 2,450 pounds of cocaine were seized and offloaded at the Miami seashore by the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell.

With a street value pegged at approximately $32.2 million, the interceptions took place in international waters during two separate busts, WSVN reported. Amidst the operations, six suspects trying to give the slip ended up in cuffs and are now facing federal prosecution, each getting a one-way ticket to the courtroom courtesy of the Department of Justice.

According to CBS News Miami, the Coast Guard’s commitment to securing homeland and maritime borders was echoed by Lt. Cmdr. Colin Weaver. The Commanding Officer hailed the rigorous efforts of Coast Guard crews and partner agencies involved, which led to the interception and detention of the contraband and its carriers.

“Thanks to the tremendous efforts of the Coast Guard crews and agency partners involved with this interdiction, Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell brought these suspected smugglers and illicit contraband ashore for prosecution,” Weaver said, his pride anchored firmly on the successful operation. Dealing a blow to the network of shadowed waters, the effort spotlighted the ongoing tug-of-war just beyond our beaches.
