A reckless driving incident claimed the life of a 63-year-old Decatur resident Sunday morning. According to the FOX 5 Atlanta, the victim, identified as Frankie Gresham, was a passenger in an Infiniti QX4 that was struck head-on by a Dodge Charger.
The Charger, allegedly traveling south "recklessly," veered into the northbound lane on South Candler Road, around 7 a.m., in an attempt to overtake another vehicle, said the Decatur Police Department. The Infiniti was unable to avoid the oncoming Charger and was hit, resulting in critical injuries for Gresham, who later died while en route to the hospital, WSB-TV reports.
The Decatur Police are actively investigating the collision. The Criminal Investigations Division is working on reconstructing the events leading up to the tragic crash. Although the identity of the driver of the Charger has not been released, authorities are in the process of determining the appropriate charges to be filed.
At this point, it is unclear if there were any other injuries caused by the accident. The outcome of the investigation and any charge, to be brought forth will depend on the findings of the Decatur Police Department's inquiry.
