San Antonio has been rattled by two separate police-related shootings, both leading to tragedy. In one incident, 18-year-old Leandro Luevano shot a police officer before taking his own life during a standoff, as reported by KSAT. In another recent confrontation, a 40-year-old man with a history of violence was fatally shot by police during a traffic stop, detailed by Fox San Antonio.
Officer Domonic Muro, who got shot by Luevano at around 1:15 a.m. Saturday in the 8200 block of Marbach Road, was later released from the hospital on Tuesday and is continuing his recovery at home. Looking to serve a warrant for the charge of attempted capital murder of a police officer, SAPD officers encountered Luevano, barricaded at a home on Cat Mountain, where he shot himself at around 11 p.m. Saturday.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus explained that the second shooting occurred when the officers conducted a traffic stop along East Southcross Boulevard. When asked to step out of the vehicle, the suspect, who was a 40-year-old male on probation, engaged in a physical altercation with the officers while armed, leading an officer to fire one round, striking him in the side. Wanting to assist, they got into a physical altercation, which led to the fatal shooting.
Chief McManus, disclosed to Fox San Antonio that, "The suspect was later pronounced at the hospital," concerning the man who was out on probation during the incident. The officer involved, a three-year veteran of the department, has since been put on administrative duty, complying with standard procedure while the investigation continues.
