The Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) has joined forces with several neighboring law enforcement agencies to form the "494 Corridor Group," a task force charged with curbing human trafficking activities along the Interstate 494 stretch. The collaborative effort which marks its seventh year of operation, focuses on sex trafficking crimes and victim recovery, recently reported the City of Eden Prairie's official site.
During 2023, the task force conducted sting operations leading to the arrest of 49 individuals for purchasing sex. In an operation dedicated to rooting out such heinous crimes, made up of investigators from Eden Prairie and colleagues from Bloomington, Richfield, Minnetonka, Plymouth, and Maple Grove, they have taken strides to protect the vulnerable.
The community has stepped up alongside law enforcement efforts, providing comfort kits to survivors of human trafficking. Contributions from local groups have furnished necessities including food, clothing, gas cards, and personal hygiene products.
Eden Prairie’s initiative extends beyond enforcement, offering a lifeline for those caught in the throes of sexual exploitation. Anyone in need of assistance is encouraged to contact emergency services or the MN Day One Crisis Line, with the latter being accessible at 866-223-1111. This network of support stands ready to aid victims, rendering a critical service to individuals whose circumstances, often manipulated by manipulative sex traffickers, find themselves in dire need of an escape, the city's statement underscored.
