Fort Pierce police are on the hunt for a hit-and-run driver who left a 36-year-old man fighting for his life this past Friday. Authorities arrived on the scene around 11 p.m. after getting reports of a pedestrian struck on the 1300 block of Juanita Avenue, TCPalm reported.

As per a witness account obtained by WPTV, a white sedan, aging and worn, struck the man and was seen fleeing south on U.S. Highway 1. Given the serious nature of the pedestrian's injuries, a rapid response was made to the incident, who was swiftly transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital after the vehicle is believed to have a damaged front windshield and driver 'side mirror was involved.

While law enforcement officials haven't released the victim's name, they have disclosed that his condition remains critical. The Fort Pierce Police Department has solicited tips from the community, asking anyone with knowledge of the crash or the whereabouts of the offending vehicle to come forward. "Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Fort Pierce Police Department at 772-467-6800 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 800-273-8477," according to WPTV.
