A Gilbert man has been nabbed by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office for allegedly assaulting a teenager in San Tan Valley, officials said. Jacob Pennington, 20, was taken into custody earlier today, in relation to the incident that occurred on Nov. 18, 2023, which was captured on video and later circulated on social media.

According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the altercation took place in a desert area near Wagon Wheel Road and Sun Dance Drive. Despite minor injuries sustained, the 16-year-old male victim did not seek medical treatment and initially, could not identify his attackers. PCSO detailed, "A Detective from our Criminal Investigations Bureau was assigned to the case, worked to interview witnesses and identify all individuals present that evening." A cooperative effort between the PCSO detective and an information sharing group led by Gilbert PD is underway to ensure thoroughness in overlapping investigations.

As reported by ABC15 Arizona, Pennington faces aggravated assault charges for his alleged role in the attack. Authorities have indicated that further arrests may follow as the investigation continues. On a separate note, on the same day, Gilbert police announced the arrest of Christopher Fantastic, 18, in connection to an unrelated assault and robbery that also targeted a teenage boy in August of last year.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell is set to bring this case among others to the forefront during a weekly press conference. Meanwhile, Gilbert Police Chief Michael Soelberg disclosed that the department is currently probing nine incidents of teen violence. Whether this number includes the August attack is uncertain according to ABC15, but it stands as a stark reminder of the growing concerns over juvenile aggression in the area.
