An early morning shoot-out in a Mesa parking lot left an innocent man with life-threatening injuries, according to authorities. Around 1:00 a.m., an altercation between two groups erupted into gunfire outside the Versailles Reception Hall near Main Street and Stapley Drive. A man, seemingly uninvolved in the conflict, was caught in the crossfire and was shot while inside his vehicle.
Police were alerted to the shooting after the fact, as Mesa police received a call of a possible shooting in the area. Upon their arrival, officers were greeted by a security guard who recounted that the shooting occurred in the parking lot and that the individuals believed to be involved fled the scene in two separate vehicles. The police have yet to apprehend any suspects or to provide descriptions of the involved vehicles, as was reported by AZFamily.
The victim was rushed to the hospital after being discovered injured in his car by authorities combing the parking lot. This information was detailed by 12News, which also reported that the man appears to be "an innocent bystander" in a violent exchange that was not of his making.
The Mesa police department continues to investigate the incident. Further details about the cause of the altercation or the identities of those involved have not been released. This story is ongoing and will be updated as officials gather more information.
