A late-night crash in Phoenix has left one man in critical condition and another facing aggravated assault and DUI charges. The accident, occurring near Central Avenue and Dobbins Road, is the latest in a troubling trend of impaired driving incidents plaguing the area.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Jesten Calderon Jimenez, 26, was traveling eastbound early on Jan. 6, when he allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle attempting a left turn onto Central Avenue, leading to the collision. Sergeant Robert Scherer of the Phoenix Police outlined the events stating, "Preliminary information suggests that both vehicles were eastbound on Dobbins Road when the victim attempted to make a left turn onto Central Avenue. At the same time, Jimenez attempted to pass the victim’s vehicle on the left causing the collision."
The impact of the incident left a man hospitalized in critical condition, sparking concerns over road safety and the consequences of driving while impaired. Jimenez was promptly arrested at the scene and is believed to have been under the influence during the time of the crash.
Further reports from ABC15 indicate that the injured man is currently in critical but stable condition following the crash. The suspect, meanwhile, is now facing the justice system with charges that include aggravated assault, and DUI. As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangerous, and often preventable consequences of driving under the influence.
