Chaos broke out in the early hours Thursday as fire ravaged a Round Rock home, leaving one man with burns and shutting down local traffic arteries. The blaze, which occurred on the 800 block of East Palm Valley Blvd, was reported around 3 a.m., according to the Round Rock Fire Department. Firefighters who responded to the 911 call detailed that the man had sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his hands. KXAN reported that the exact cause of the fire remained a mystery as fire officials awaited daylight to conduct a proper investigation.
The fire did not extend its fury to neighboring businesses, but it caused significant disruption, according to KXAN. Caught in the melee, Hwy. 79 was closed off to facilitate access to the burning house and the fire hydrant across the street. Trapped by necessity, the Round Rock Police Department assisted, redirecting traffic and sealing off the eastbound and westbound lanes of Heritage Center Circle to north Georgetown St.
Commuters were faced with early morning delays as police blockades choked off the usual flow of traffic. According to FOX 7 Austin, relief came as the eastbound lanes reopened at 5:35 a.m., followed by the westbound lanes flickering back to life by 6:15 a.m.
As Round Rock residents begin their day, the aftermath of the conflagration has been pushed aside, clearing the veins of morning commutes. While the firefighters' quick response quelled the physical flames, the residents, jarred awake at dawn to the sound of sirens, now grappling with the residual smoke of disrupted routines and the stark reminder of vulnerability housed within their own walls.
