A heated exchange on a southwest Atlanta street erupted in gunfire yesterday afternoon, leaving one man wounded in the foot, authorities said. The Atlanta Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the scene at 19 Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard SW after receiving a call around 2:12 p.m. regarding a shooting incident.
Upon arrival, police found a 50-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to his left foot. Although injured, the man was coherent and breathing, and was quickly taken to a local hospital for medical care, as detailed by Atlanta Police Department. The preliminary investigation suggested an argument between the victim and a known assailant had spiraled out of control, leading to the shooting.
According to the report, the suspect was still at the scene when the officers made their arrival and was detained immediately for questioning.
