Big names in hospitality, Marriott Marquis and Hyatt Regency are vowing to roll out the red carpet for the DNC later this year. In a coordinated announcement, these giants will transform into political central as the official headquarters for the Democratic National Convention. Slated for August 19-22 in Chicago, the event has the city buzzing with preparations.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Marriott and Hyatt are set to harbor the Biden for President campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and masses of media. Not to be outshone, the McCormick Place complex will play host to a flurry of daytime meetings and briefings.
"We are proud to partner with these key hotels and the union labor that powers them to make McCormick Place our home base for convention week," Alex Hornbrook, DNCC executive director, was quoted in Chicago Defender. Meanwhile, evening sessions will rock the United Center, adding a dash of sports arena prestige to the political gathering.
Beyond the glitz, there's a nod to practicality. Delegates and attendees revel in the convenience of being housed across eight downtown hotels—no sweat-breaking treks like those faced by some GOP delegates in Milwaukee. Larita Clark, CEO of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, told Chicago Defender, "With our 23 union partners and nearly 3,000 campus employees, we welcome the DNC to McCormick Place. We look forward to creating a spectacular event."
