A 28-year-old man was shot to death at a Citgo gas station in Dolton on Tuesday afternoon after a passenger got out of a black Chrysler 300, walked around the vehicle and opened fire through the driver's side window, according to police. The man was rushed to a hospital in Harvey but did not survive.

Dolton police said the Chrysler pulled into the Citgo station at Lincoln and Cottage Grove avenues around 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, according to CBS News. Police said a passenger got out of the front passenger seat of the car and walked around to the back of the vehicle before pulling a gun from the pocket of his hoodie.

That passenger then fired four shots into the front driver's side window, per police. The 28-year-old victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 3 p.m., according to police.

Illinois State Police, Task Force Join Investigation

Illinois State Police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are assisting Dolton police with the investigation, the station's report notes. No further details on a motive or any arrest have been released.

Tuesday's shooting adds to a string of violent incidents at south suburban gas stations over the years. In December 2017, two people were shot during an attempted armed robbery inside a Clark gas station convenience store at 142nd and Langley in Dolton, per the same account from CBS News. One victim, 19, was pronounced dead, while the other, 55, was critically wounded.

Earlier Dolton Case Saw Multiple Arrests

In that 2017 case, CBS News reported that Derrick Fils, 45, faced first-degree murder charges in the death of the 19-year-old victim, whose name the outlet spelled Arshad Vhora. The Chicago Sun-Times, which spelled the victim's name Arshad Vahora, reported he was shot in the head and chest and pronounced dead at the scene. A third suspect in that case, Eric Brewer, 45, was later arrested in Gary, Indiana, and turned over to local police after being taken into custody by the FBI Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force, according to the Sun-Times.

Dolton has also seen other fatal shootings in recent years. A 21-year-old man died of multiple gunshot wounds following a separate shooting in the city, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, which classified his death as a homicide, as reported by The Times of Northwest Indiana. No connection between that case and Tuesday's shooting has been established.

As of now, no suspect has been identified or arrested in Tuesday's shooting at the Citgo station, and police have not released a motive for the gunfire. The investigation remains active, with Illinois State Police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force continuing to work alongside Dolton police.
