A grim scene unfolded in a quiet north Phoenix neighborhood Sunday morning when police discovered the bodies of a man and a woman in what appears to be a murder-suicide. Phoenix Police were called to the scene near Central Avenue and Union Hills Drive at approximately 8:45 a.m., after receiving a distressing domestic violence report, as 12 News reported.
According to authorities, the man had made a chilling statement claiming to quickly have killed his girlfriend and that he intended to end his own life. When law enforcement officers arrived at the home close to 1 Avenue and Villa Maria Drive, the residence was immediately secured as they attempted to make contact with the individuals inside. Despite using a loudspeaker and cell phone to demand the occupants exit the home, the efforts were met with silence, the details of the operation were laid out by 12 News.
A search warrant was swiftly obtained, allowing officers from the Special Assignments Unit to enter the property. Inside, they discovered 70-year-old Ila Washington and 59-year-old Darryle Mooney, both deceased from gunshot wounds. It is believed that Mooney shot Washington before turning the gun on himself, according to the ongoing investigation. This was confirmed by statements from the Phoenix Police Department, as stated by FOX 10 Phoenix.
