A tragic road incident claimed the life of a Roswell teenager on Tuesday night in Cherokee County. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported that a single-car accident resulted in the death of 17-year-old William Sternot. Deputies responded to the scene shortly before 8 p.m. on Earney Road near Silver Fox Run, where they discovered a wrecked Mazda 3.
Sternot's car had veered off the road and collided with a tree, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the FOX 5 Atlanta, Captain Jay Baker from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office indicated that "Preliminary indications are that speed was a contributing factor in the accident." There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
The accident has prompted an investigation by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Traffic Enforcement Unit. As the community mourns the loss of such young life, the details surrounding the crash are still being scrutinized by authorities.
"When they arrived, they found a Mazda 3 had gone off the road and hit a tree," the Atlanta News First reported. The community has been left to grapple with the sudden and devastating departure of a youth, not yet blossomed into the fullness of manhood. As the investigation continues, officials have yet to determine if additional factors played a role in the fatal event.
