San Francisco's morning commute became heated as a recycling truck burst into flames on the Great Highway, causing traffic disruptions and a temporary road closure. Drivers looking for a clear path had to curb their ambitions, as the San Francisco Fire Department confronted the fiery spectacle that erupted at around 7:25 a.m. near Fulton Street.
As the firefighters tamed the blaze that sent clouds of smoke billowing into the sky, officials from the department advised nearby residents, through a dense smoke that was advised to be kept out, to shut their windows, KRON reported. Swift action from the truck's driver, adhering to emergency protocol, led to the truck's burning contents being emptied onto the road, an act of urgency that likely averted a larger crisis.
The blaze was extinguished by 8 a.m., but its remnants were left to be cleaned by other Recology trucks. San Francisco Fire Department's quick response ensured that the incident, although disruptive, was transient and managed effectively. In the aftermath, the San Francisco Police Department stepped in, cordoning off the stretch of the Great Highway between Balboa and Fulton streets, urging motorists to scout out alternative routes.
ALERTSF issued an update later, confirming the resolution of the incident that unfolded between Fulton and Balboa Streets. Normality was hinted to be restored, but the echoes of the morning's chaos were expected to linger in the form of traffic delays. Commuters are advised, in a city pulsating with the beats of urgency, to allow for additional travel time and consider alternate routes in their daily migration.
