Early Thursday morning, on San Antonio's East Southcross, a stabbing victim's erratic behavior escalated into a confrontation with law enforcement. Shortly after 3 a.m., the wounded man, discovered with a chest stab, lashed out at an officer attempting to investigate, leading to his subsequent restraint with a Taser device. KENS 5 reported that the man began acting erratic and punched an officer in the eye upon their arrival at the scene.
The incident took place near Club View Drive and Pecan Valley Elementary School, in a neighborhood accustomed to quiet rather than the pre-dawn violence. According to a statement acquired by KSAT, officers had to take action after the victim turned uncooperative and punched one of them in the face. Following the assault on the officer, officials decided to use a Taser to subdue the victim and bring the situation under control.
Details regarding the stabbing are scant. Both the San Antonio Police Department and EMS responded to the incident, but were unable to gather any potential information about the suspect responsible for the initial stabbing. What is clear, however, is that the victim's reaction to the officers' presence only added to the night's complexities.
The man was transported to an area hospital by ambulance after being stunned with the Taser, as per policy. "He was taken to the hospital where he is currently in stable condition," stated the SAPD. With the victim expected to recover, the question of whether charges will be filed against him remains unanswered. The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing as officers look to piece together the events that unfolded in the shadow of the night.
