A wild high-speed chase ensued on the streets of San Antonio after a man reportedly robbed a woman at gunpoint and then pointed his firearm at pursuing police officers. According to a report by KENS 5, the incident began when a 19-year-old suspect allegedly attempted to burglarize cars in the 3600 block of Culebra Road and subsequently accosted a woman, commandeering her purse at the end of a gun barrel.
As the woman emerged to confront him, authorities say the suspect fled in a vehicle, brandishing his weapon at the officers who were in hot pursuit along the highway, with the chase reportedly reaching breakneck speeds. The man facing accusations eventually crashed his car in the 1800 block of West Mayfield Blvd., as noted by FOX San Antonio.
Post-crash, the suspect was met with misfortune as he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured by the police, ending the high-stakes pursuit without reported injuries. The debacle had eyewitnesses and local residents experiencing a significant commotion, as the suspect not only menaced police with his firearm but also put numerous lives at risk with his dangerous driving. According to the morning report on Culebra Road near Esmeralda Drive, the robbery took place at approximately 10:15 a.m.
The authorities have not yet released the identity of the man or listed the full charges he will face. However, with the audacious act of pointing his gun out of the window during the chase, which FOX San Antonio reported may have reached speeds of up to 100 mph, he will likely face a range of serious charges including armed robbery and assault on a police officer. The suspect tried to run from the officers after he wrecked off West Mayfield Boulevard and Bynum Avenue, but was taken into custody, sealing the end of an evidently reckless escape attempt.
