
A man named Ricky Womack Jr., who was sought for attacking a police vehicle and leading deputies on a wild chase, wound up in a standoff when he barricaded himself inside a mobile home in Carroll County, authorities said. The chaos erupted after deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop what was revealed as a stolen Chevrolet Tahoe along Kings Highway early Wednesday, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
The suspect, Womack, reportedly slammed the Tahoe in reverse, ramming it into Deputy Payne’s cruiser before fleeing into the woods. A search ensued involving several deputies and a K-9 unit, but Womack managed to evade capture, per 11Alive. Later that day, investigators learned that a nearby residence had been burglarized and a Dodge Ram pickup truck had been stolen only to be found outside a mobile home in Villa Forrest Mobile Home Park.
A standoff began when authorities, tipped that Womack was inside the mobile home armed with a handgun, surrounded the residence. A SWAT unit converged on the scene, supported by officers from Carrollton Police, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and Georgia State Patrol. After an intense operation, Womack was extracted from the premises and found to be in possession of a handgun previously reported stolen in Carroll County.
Womack now faces a slew of charges, including aggravated assault, possession of methamphetamine, and fleeing, among others in Douglas County, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Carroll County has also slapped additional charges on him,, given the multi-county mayhem. Moreover, a second individual was reportedly taken into custody at the mobile home, although their involvement has yet to be detailed.
