Two separate shooting incidents in Mesa have resulted in serious injuries over the weekend, with perpetrators still on the loose. In the first act of violence, a man was found with life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning. According to ABC15, Mesa police responded to a call near Stapley Drive and Main Street. On arrival at the scene, they were notified by a security guard of a shooting in a parking lot where they subsequently discovered the injured man in a vehicle.
With the suspects having fled in not one, but two different vehicles, law enforcement is now probing into the matter. The security guard's claim that the suspects left in separate cars adds a worrying dimension to the case, but detailed descriptions and the number of suspects involved remain undisclosed. The injured man, meanwhile, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A mere few days earlier, in a separate though equally jarring event, a teenage boy was shot in the leg. The incident was reported to police by the victim's mother early Monday morning. According to the authorities, the 16-year-old and his friend were outside their apartment complex on University Drive when they encountered the drive-by shooter. The information, confirmed by AZ Family, indicates that the assailant fired three to four times from within a vehicle at the victims.
The young victim, whose identity remains protected due to his age, was taken to hospital with injuries that, thankfully, are not considered life-threatening. The police have not yet provided a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved. This shooting, unfolding within the perimeter of a residential complex rather than on a public road, has heightened the sense of urgency in identifying those responsible.
As investigations for both shooting cases continue, Mesa's authorities are faced with the grim task of piecing together scant evidence in hopes of catching these elusive suspects. The community, startled by this spate of gun violence, awaits answers as the Mesa Police Department calls for any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward.
