Two women are facing serious charges after trying to slip drugs and a bizarre array of other contraband, into the DeKalb County Jail, according to the sheriff's office. Caught in the act around 8:15 p.m. last Saturday, the suspects had parked suspiciously in a visitors' area, prompting a thorough search of their vehicle by vigilant deputies.
The inventory of prohibited items, listed by the Atlanta News First, read like a criminal's shopping list: cellphone chargers, charging cords, a pair of binoculars, rolling papers, earphones, several cigarette lighters, a threatening straight razor, along with three Husky T40 Star tools, a Swellpro drone with remote controller, a battery pack, even a bullhorn, not to mention 48.3 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana. This latest attempt to breach jail protocols marks a repeat of such incidents; just last month, two men were similarly nabbed for smuggling goods into the same facility.
The driver, Kyrenda Carter, aged 27, faces a spate of charges, including felony counts of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and conspiracy to commit a felony, alongside misdemeanors for criminal trespass with an unlawful purpose, driving without a license and providing false identification details to law enforcement. The passenger, identified as Porchae Wade, age 36, is also staring down the barrel of similar felony charges, as reported FOX 5 Atlanta.
These arrests throw a spotlight on the continuing challenges faced by law enforcement in clamping down on illicit supplies reaching inmates. However, the details of their capture, serve as a reminder of the incessant vigilance by deputies to put a stop to these criminal enterprises.
