In a display of resilience and skill, Victor Wembanyama led the San Antonio Spurs to a narrow 131-127 victory against the Washington Wizards. The French phenom, sidelined for a game, dazzled with a 24-point contribution bolstered by eight rebounds. This marked a significant bounce-back for the Spurs upon his return.
Wembanyama, the #1 draft pick who previously sat out due to a sprained ankle, is currently under a careful watch by Spurs' medical staff. His playing time has been restricted, but he managed to log 28 minutes in the win over the Wizards, exceeding the 20-24 minutes limitation. "Doctor's orders," was the cited reason for his previous absence by Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, according to KENS5.
Supporting Wembanyama was Jeremy Sochan, who put up 23 points, and Devin Vasell who contributed with 21 points. Their combined efforts helped secure the Spurs' win in a tightly contested game. Yahoo Sports Canada notes that Wembanyama also impressed with four assists and six blocks.
The Wizards' Marvin Bagley II was a standout, dropping 21 points and snagging 12 rebounds. His performance was overshadowed by the Spurs' win, despite Bagley III's season-high rebounding number. Another notable performance came from Bilal Coulibaly, Wembanyama's former French league teammate, who scored 14 points off a bench for the Wizards, while Delon Wright chipped in 16 points.
