A leisurely yesterday in Miami turned chaotic after a tour boat and a private vessel collided near Port Miami, leaving multiple people injured. According to WSVN, the accident involved a Thriller sightseeing boat from Bayside and resulted in 29 people being injured.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and other agencies responded to the crash site after the incident, which occurred just after 3:15 p.m. in Fisherman's Channel. "We got a call that two vessels collided in Fisherman’s [Channel]," MDFR Division Chief Horacio Rodriguez told WSVN. As a result of the crash, 13 individuals were hospitalized, with at least one victim being airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, as per Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials.
The severity of injuries sustained by the victims remains uncertain, however no deaths have been reported. Paramedics treated additional patients on site and returned those without complaints back to Bayside, where the tour originated. Responding units to the ordeal included not just local Fire Rescue teams, but also the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard, according to Local 10 News.
The scene following the accident displayed a grim tapestry of emergency services in action; ambulances and fire engines lined the docks at Port Miami, where injured were brought ashore. As WSVN's coverage included footage of paramedics tending to a patient being brought from a helicopter to the hospital. While details about what led to the collision are still scarce, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has launched an investigation into the cause of the tragic event, gathering information at Bayside where the tour boat had set sail earlier that day.
