Thieves took advantage of the winter chill in Brooklyn Park, making off with a car left running to warm up, according to local law enforcement. The incident kicked off early Sunday morning when a resident from the 8200 block of France Ave reported the theft of her vehicle which she had left unattended and unlocked.

The Brooklyn Park Police Department didn't waste time, with an officer spotting the stolen vehicle at approximately 10:35 a.m. the same day, a mere 35 minutes after the crime was reported. Initiating a traffic stop turned hasty as the suspects fled leading a brief pursuit down the 4000 block of 82nd Ave N - the car eventually hit a garage after both driver and passenger abandoned the moving vehicle on foot, say police.

The runaway debacle left both the stolen vehicle and the garage it hit with moderate damage, though, by some stroke of luck, no injuries have been reported in the fray. Responding officers were then guided by neighbors to a residence on the 8200 block of Halifax Ct, where a male matching the description of one of the fleeing suspects was witnessed dashing inside.

Police have since identified the potential suspect after a rendezvous with several individuals at the residence, the department is keen to piece together this series of events that could have easily veered into tragedy, the pursuit and its origins still under active investigation. Details of the chase and the response by law enforcement are compiled from a report by the Brooklyn Park Police Department issued on February 4th.
