The Community Activity Center (CAC) in Brooklyn Park, a hub for over 350,000 residents and visitors annually, is on the verge of significant changes. Built-in 1983 at 5600 85th Avenue, the center has been straining to meet the demands of an ever-growing population. Keenly aware of this pressing need, city officials approved a $26 million Park Bond Referendum back in November 2018 aimed at improving facilities such as the front entry, customer service desk, and public lavatories, according to a city bulletin.
After the collaborative prospects with the YMCA fell through due to the pandemic, city leaders didn't stall, instead, they continued in 2022 to brainstorm additional methods to serve the local community. As a result of these efforts, the 2023 Legislative Session yielded a boost, granting $5 million specifically to transform one of the ice rinks. However, as is often the case with renovations, there's been a shift in the wind, and city councilmen have been directed to revisit alternative remodel plans for the CAC, especially concerning the creation of multipurpose court space with the allocated funds.
As the next step in this evolving story, the Brooklyn Park City Council is laying out the welcome mat to locals for input on the potential improvements. Scheduled for March 7, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., the Community Activity Center, situated in the Gardenview Room, 5600 85th Ave N, will play host to a public gathering. Here, attendees will be privy to the latest information concerning the possibilities that lie ahead for the CAC modifications. Those unable to attend in person can still catch the action on the city's Facebook Live, with the reassurance of a little sustenance in the form of snacks for face-to-face participants.
With the spring season upon us, the City Council gears up to revisit the project proposals after community meeting deliberations. For those keen on contributing to the shaping of Brooklyn Park's social infrastructure, now is the time to mark calendars, make voices heard, and participate in the proactive development of your local community haven. Further details on the event and the ongoing project can be found by visiting the city's official communication channels or clicking here.
