Thieves made off with an undisclosed amount of merchandise from a Hingham, MA eyewear store following a burglary at the Derby Street Shoppes. The break-in at Lunette Optic located at 92 Derby St occurred early Thursday morning, according to the Hingham Police Department.
Arriving at the scene in response to a burglar alarm activation at approximately 12:50 am, police discovered a chaotic scene: a shattered front door and a pry bar carelessly discarded on the sidewalk, directly in front of the business. Inside, they encountered a sizable rock, presumably used to smash the door, laying amidst the shop's wares. The suspect or suspects left several display cases wrecked while liberating glasses from their secure confines.
The number of stolen items has yet to be tallied by authorities. The Hingham Police detailed that the glass door's unsuccessful prying attempt led the burglars to resort to a rock to gain entry into the store. The damage didn't stop there, as multiple display cases suffered pry bar wounds.
