A child and a man are fighting for their lives following a horrific crash near the intersection of 35th Avenue and Thomas Road on Saturday afternoon. First responders rushed to the scene just after 2 p.m. where they found a two-car collision that left one victim trapped, necessitating extrication from the mangled vehicle. A man was swiftly taken to the hospital in "extremely critical condition" while a girl, whose age remains undisclosed, was transported in critical condition, as reported by ABC15.
In a tragic twist of fate, while the Phoenix police were investigating the aforementioned incident, another collision unfolded just a stone's throw away. A substantial five-car crash took place just east of the initial accident site around 3:15 p.m., involving several people and leading to multiple hospitalizations. Among the injured was a child, also in critical condition. According to the Phoenix Fire Department’s statement, everyone involved in this second mishap, despite some sustaining life-threatening injuries, is expected to make it through.
Francisco Corral, who found himself caught up in the multi-vehicle carnage while he was on his way to visit his late wife's grave, expressed his deep shock to AZ Family. "Still in shock. Just, I don’t know. There was a car accident, and kids were involved, and I just hope they’re alright,” he said reflecting the unsettled nature of these catastrophic events.
Compounding the tragedy, Phoenix police revealed that a man is being processed for DUI in connection with the secondary collision, highlighting the potential preventable cause of this disastrous event. Following a thorough investigation, the intersection, which had been closed off, eventually reopened to the public. The anonymity of the cause leading to this series of unfortunate events remains as investigations are ongoing.
