The incident has sparked a conversation on road safety and the consequences of impaired driving. According to a Facebook post by the City of Mankato, the collision occurred on Thursday, February 1, 2024, around 4:15 p.m. when the vehicle, helmed by a 52-year-old woman, veered into the building at the junction of Riverfront Drive and Main Street.
The authorities arrived swiftly at the scene with Mankato Police, Fire, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service teams attending to the chaos. The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, showed clear signs of impairment, leading to her arrest and a subsequent trip down to the Blue Earth County Justice Center to likely face the charges. Thankfully, it was a single-vehicle crash with no other vehicles or pedestrians caught up in the mix.
