On Saturday, the East Valley Women's League, in partnership with Men's Wearhouse, suited up 44 East Valley high school students in preparation for their future careers. The non-profit and retail giant outfitted these youngsters with complete suits, including shirts, ties, shoes, and belts, all aimed to help them make an outstanding impression on upcoming job interviews and college visits. According to ABC15, Joseph Luis, a senior at Corona Del Sol High School, said the initiative helped him make the leap from casual to professional attire.
The students, recognized by their schools for leadership and character, seemed to stand taller when they put on their jackets. "They put that suit jacket on and you just kind of see them... their shoulders go up a little straighter, puff their chests out a little bit more, and you just kind of see the self-confidence and how proud they are to be able to own a suit," Beth Kelly, EVWL SUITS Committee Chair, observed in a statement obtained by ABC15. Their reactions underscore the belief that good clothes can indeed have a positive psychological effect on individuals.
Rebecca Shershen, the mother of Joseph Luis, expressed her pride in how her son's achievements in AP classes and supportiveness in the classroom had been recognized through this program. "Honestly, it feels pretty good... I mean for somebody to have recognized me other than my mother, it's pretty nice to know that somebody saw," Joseph Luis told ABC15. This sentiment was echoed in teacher testimonials, with educators witnessing a transformative effect among their students upon receiving the suits.
The collaboration between the East Valley Women's League and Men's Wearhouse speaks volumes about the potential for public-private partnerships to effect real change in communities. Dressed for the future, students like Joseph are embarking on a journey decked out not just in fabric, but in newfound confidence that was contributed by a member in the community who cared. "Our hope is to continue this partnership for years to come, dressing future generations for success," said a representative from Men's Wearhouse, in information revealed by BNN Breaking. This initiative is all about providing students with the right tools—namely, a sharp look—to unlock doors that lead to brighter prospects and achievements.
