Chaos erupted on Interstate 10 near Quartzsite early Tuesday morning, when a semi-truck collided with a fuel tanker, sparking a massive blaze that shut down eastbound traffic. Both drivers sustained only minor injuries in the inferno, but the incident led to a brush fire and major freeway closure.
The accident took place around 4:20 a.m, as reported by AZ Family. A commercial vehicle abruptly braked for traffic, caused by a roadway construction, and subsequently lost control, leading to the violent jackknife and collision. Firefighters from Riverside County, Quartzsite and Ehrenberg were dispatched to the location to fight the resulting fires on the tanker and the surrounding area.
Crews worked tirelessly to control the blaze that had spread to nearby brush along the freeway.
