
In a late-night operation, the Fremont Police Department apprehended two local men on charges of illegal firearm possession and intent to distribute marijuana, authorities divulged Monday. Jefferson Sanchez, 18, and Alfredo Montoya Perez, 19, were busted near a vehicle that was allegedly parked unlawfully in a no-go zone at around 9 p.m. on February 2, according to an X post from the department.

Responding to a call about suspicious activity involving alcohol consumption by a car on Boar Circle, Fremont officers discovered the vehicle stationed in front of a "No Trespassing" sign. A search ensued, where the officers unearthed several ounces of marijuana packaged for sale and a loaded, unserialized handgun with an extended magazine inside the vehicle. Sanchez's charges include multiple counts relating to the concealed firearm in their vehicle and on his person and for purchasing or receiving a large capacity magazine, the department stated.
His alleged accomplice, Montoya Perez, faces accusations tied to marijuana possession and for purportedly allowing another individual to carry a loaded firearm in the vehicle. Both suspects were carted off to the Santa Rita Jail following the incident. They are slated to make their initial court appearance on February 7, 2024, per the Fremont Police dispatch.
