After nearly two decades since the tragic death of an infant at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, an arrest has been made. The cold case involving "Baby Skylar," the moniker given to the newborn found lifeless in a trash can in 2005, saw a breakthrough as Phoenix police took 51-year-old Annie Anderson into custody. Anderson, who was located in Washington, is awaiting extradition to face charges of first-degree murder, according to 12 News.
The mystery that haunted the state of Arizona began on Oct. 10, 2005, when maintenance workers, searching for a reported missing laptop, stumbled upon a harrowing scene – a deceased newborn tucked away in a garbage bag among refuse and detritus. Investigators, despite their best efforts, were initially unable to trace the mother after scouring hotel guest lists and surveillance systems in the vicinity, as reported by azfamily.com.
Advances in DNA technology and genetic genealogy eventually propelled the case forward. By 2021, a collaborative effort between the FBI and Phoenix Police involved the use of these new methods, which indicated a probable maternal connection between Anderson and the deceased child, as stated in a press release. This scientific lead marked the turning point in a nearly two-decade-long search for answers
Phoenix police are set to provide more details on this significant development in the case during a news conference scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., as per 12 News.
