Frontier Airlines is spreading its wings with the launch of 17 new routes, including a connection between Portland and Salt Lake City that's easy on the wallet, the carrier announced. Starting May 16, planes will jet off three times a week from Portland International Airport (PDX) to Salt Lake City International, with inaugural fares as low as $19, a steal that's available until March 1, KOIN reports.

In a bid to lure travelers, Frontier is not only connecting Portland to Salt Lake City, but also adding flights to other cities like San Francisco, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Ontario, California starting in April, the ultra-low fare airline is known for its competitive pricing which it hopes will shake up the market and offering Premium extra-legroom Stretch seating starting at just $19, the Portland Business Journal detailed the additions, noting that other airlines such as Alaska Airlines and Avelo are also expanding their Oregon flight offerings.

"We are excited to yet again expand our route map with a focus on underserved and overpriced markets as we head into spring," said Josh Flyr, Frontier's vice president of network and operations design, according to a company statement. This expansion indicates the airline's ambition to drive down prices for consumers eager to take flight, whether to reunite with loved ones or to delve into new travel escapades.

Travelers can take advantage of these low rates beyond Portland's city limits, with Frontier also announcing routes from Orlando to St. Croix, Nashville to Chicago O'Hare, and Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson to several cities including Grand Rapids, Islip, Norfolk, and Syracuse; each new venture part of the airline’s fare sale campaign aiming to bring affordable air travel within reach of the many, not the few, as The Business Journals highlights the airline's strategy. Frontier's aggressive expansion underscores its commitment to being America's "Greenest Airline" and its pursuit of a broader customer base through ultra-low fares.
