A grim shadow was cast over Brooklyn Park yesterday as a deadly shooting took place at a local business, leaving one individual dead and a community reeling. According to a report from the Brooklyn Park Police Department, officers were called to the scene of an apparent active shooter at 5825 74th Ave N at approximately 2:11 PM on February 19, 2024.
Upon arriving, responders were met with a harrowing sight, a victim discovered lifeless, marred by multiple gunshot wounds the building was promptly searched by officers who uncovered an additional crime scene on a separate floor. The Brooklyn Park SWAT team, along with other supporting agencies, joined the effort to clear the building, which thankfully resulted in no further casualties.
The search for the suspect ended shortly thereafter, confining the tragedy to a single day with officers tracking the individual to the 8400 block of Xerxes Ave N. where the suspect was taken into custody, and a firearm was also recovered. Police have assured the public that no additional suspects are at large and a full-scale homicide investigation has been launched to decipher the events leading up to this tragic incident.
