A hail of bullets left one man dead and three others wounded in a daytime shooting that erupted on the streets of Minneapolis, according to the Minneapolis Police Department. Officers rushed to the 800 block of East Franklin Avenue at around 1:28 p.m., where they were met with a scene of chaos and carnage. The bloodshed claimed the life of a 34-year-old man and put two other men and one woman in the hospital.
The deceased man was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound as officers arrived, while a second victim, 37, was struggling with life-threatening injuries. Desperately, first responders administered life-saving measures before he was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC). A 37-year-old woman, also shot, found herself with injuries deemed non-life-threatening and was taken to HCMC by emergency medical services. Arriving on his own at the medical center was another victim, a 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound that seemed to spare his life.
Investigators are now piecing together the motive behind the shooting as bullets also struck at least two buildings in the area. Chief O’Hara highlighted the unfortunate reality of the locale, stating, "Whenever you have a problem with fentanyl, narcotics, illicit sales, there aren’t legitimate ways to resolve disputes." This comment, referring to recurrent crime at the intersection historically driven by narcotics sales, was shared in a statement obtained by Minneapolis official communications.
So far, no arrests have been made in relation to the shooting that bears the GO number 24-051073. The Minnesota hand of law and order, represented by homicide detectives and forensic scientists from the Minneapolis Police Forensic Division, are working tirelessly to gather evidence at the scene. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has taken on the task of identifying the deceased man and determining the exact cause of the shooting.
