A family is in mourning after Laronn M. Allen, a 39-year-old Portland man, was fatally shot in the Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood. Allen’s death was ruled a homicide by the Medical Examiner, according to official release from the Portland Police Bureau. The shooting occurred on Saturday evening, and the police have yet to make an arrest.
Officers from the North Precinct were called to the 3700 block of Northeast Milton Street at approximately 6:45 p.m. on February 3, following reports of a shooting. They found the man deceased on the scene. The suspect or suspects fled prior to the arrival of the police. Allen's family has appealed for privacy in the wake of this tragedy but provided a photograph of him for public dissemination.
Homicide detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The area of Northeast Milton Street was closed off to the public between Northeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard and Northeast Alameda Street as they worked the scene, seeking evidence and statements that might lead them to the perpetrator or perpetrators.
The community has been left rattled by the violence, with no immediate leads on who is responsible. Portland Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, in hopes of bringing closure to the family of the deceased. As of now, Northeast Milton Street has been reopened as the investigation continues, with local residents hoping for a swift resolution, so that peace may once again settle on this corner of Portland.
