San Antonio fire officials are investigating a blaze earlier today that engulfed multiple vehicles on the west side of the city, raising suspicions of arson. According to reports from KENS5, firefighters rushed to the scene at the intersection of Maiden Lane and Brandywine Avenue, near Culebra Road, where they found at least two vehicles and a shed ablaze around 2:13 a.m.
The fire not only charred the initial vehicles and the shed, but also damaged, at least the paint on two other parked vehicles. In December, the same property suffered significant damage due to a relative with a history of arson, which the San Antonio Fire Department recalled. As a result, the temptation to link past fires to the current conflagration courses through the investigation, with no injuries having been reported in the latest incident, officials say.
The cause of the fire remains under scrutiny – with arson investigators being called to the scene to unravel whether the flames were the work of an incendiary. The Charlotte News reported that the fire affected more than just the fully involved vehicles, leaving surrounding ones marred by the heat and smoke of the aggressive fire.
While the investigation continues, the San Antonio Fire Department has not yet released any formal statements on potential suspects or confirmed the arson hypothesis. Yet, the memory of the previous blaze haunts the scene like a specter, if one can say, from the prior loss the property endured. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they piece together the circumstances of this latest fire, which disrupts the quietude of the community at a time when peace is a precious commodity.
