A San Diego Peeping Tom has been collared after a high-flying police chase, authorities said Wednesday. Ilmer Cortez-Diaz was spotted lurking in a residential backyard on Adobe Drive Tuesday evening, marking the third such peeping incident at the property this week, according to the homeowner.
Just after 8 p.m. on Valentine's Day, law enforcement was summoned to the scene, and an aerial unit quickly tracked down Cortez-Diaz, who was seen hopping fences to shake off officers. With the eyes in the sky guiding them, cops caught the prowler hiding in a canyon, the San Diego Police Department detailed in a statement.
Previous incidents had the victim on edge, and with footage from a Ring doorbell camera showing a man resembling Cortez-Diaz during a February 12 incident, the case against him solidified. The alarming video depicted the suspect hiding from view and peeping through the privacy of bedroom windows and glass doors.
"Air Borne Law Enforcement (ABLE) arrived on the scene within two minutes and located the male jumping over fences of numerous backyards, trying to evade officers," detailed the San Diego Police Department's announcement of the chase that ensued right before Cortez-Diaz was ultimately detained by SDSU Officers, hiding behind East Falls View Drive.
