Scottsdale residents rattled by a rash of break-ins will get the chance to air their concerns and learn preventative tactics during a town hall meeting slated for Tuesday evening. There have been over 200 burglaries in a spate spanning three months, affecting Scottsdale as well as Chandler, Gilbert, Phoenix, and Paradise Valley, prompting police to raise the alarm and call for vigilance, as reported by ABC15.

The string of burglaries, all exhibiting similar break-in techniques, namely evening heists with thieves smashing through bedroom windows to snatch valuables, have the hallmarks of South American Theft Groups (SATGs) operating nationwide for years and reputed for their disciplined thievery. Sgt. Phil Krynsky of the Phoenix Police Department emphasized, "We do believe that there's many more individuals out there involved in this, so we still encourage the public to be vigilant," he told ABC15. The Scottsdale Police Department is taking the lead in community engagement by spearheading the forthcoming town hall.

One Paradise Valley home recently fell prey to intruders, leaving the community on edge, but residents are striving to make their homes less appealing to opportunistic burglars. Sgt. Allison Sempsis of the Scottsdale Police conveyed their department's intent to not only inform but also empower locals at the town hall, "We're trying to provide information to the community just to make them feel a little bit safer, to let them know what the Scottsdale Police is doing about these burglaries," according to a statement obtained by ABC15.

Authorities persist in advocating for basic security measures like locking doors, activating alarms, and maintaining well-lit properties and trimmed greenery for reduced concealment options. The community meet-up, open to all, is an opportunity for Scottsdale Police to disperse valuable tips and for residents to seek clarifications or advice on safeguarding their properties, as disclosed in the official notice from the Scottsdale Police Department Public Information Office.

The town hall will convene at the Highlands Church located at 9050 E Pinnacle Peak Road from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and participants are encouraged to dispatch their questions in advance to [email protected].
