St. Louis Park locals, lace up your sneakers and get ready to hit the trails—or the hallways—depending on what Mother Nature decides. Announced by the city's officials, the "Walk the Park" event is calling for community members to join a 1 – 2-mile walk on Saturday, Feb. 10, a shot at good health and neighborly bonding from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine.
Hosted monthly, this free event makes its rounds across various parts of St. Louis Park's trail system, with the next rendezvous slated for the St. Louis Park Middle School, located at 2025 Texas Ave. S., according to a city bulletin. The gig moves indoors during inclement weather, or when temperatures dip below 40 degrees, meeting at the back entrance, no less, at door 16.
For those who might have their Saturday mornings booked, fear not: "Walk the Park" has planned additional dates, so you can slot in some mileage at other times. The next walks are scheduled for March 9 at the middle school and April 13 at Lamplighter Park, maintaining the same morning hour, for those early birds who like to get their worm – and their steps – before the rest of the world stirs.
With the current wellness trend taking swings from kale smoothies to goat yoga, it's refreshing to see a blast from the fitness past, just taking a simple stroll through one's stomping grounds. St. Louis Park seems to be stepping up where other communities are still, well, dragging their feet, encouraging locals to come together and move more. Keep tabs on those upcoming walks, because let's be honest, a breath of fresh air beats a crowded gym any day, especially in the Minnesotan throes of winter.
