Last night, Southeast Austin became the scene of a house fire as flames engulfed a residence on the 5400 block of Village Lane. According to a social media post by Austin Fire Info, the Austin Fire Department was called to the scene around 9:53 p.m., Friday evening.
Fortunately, all human occupants managed to escape unharmed, but a dog was discovered in a perilous state - unresponsive amid the chaos. In a display of urgency and care, the Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS sprang into action and tended to the canine. The concerted efforts between the two agencies bore fruit as the dog was later reported to be awake, responsive, and happy, as detailed in an update from Austin Fire Info.

While the fire raged and emergency services were battling the blaze, Village Lane was completely shut down to traffic. This closure remained in effect as firefighters strenuously worked to contain the conflagration. CBS Austin reported that fire officials announced the fire under control by 10:17 p.m., and the roadway has since been reopened to the public.
The cause of the fire, which sent shock waves through the quiet neighborhood, is still under investigation. The Austin Fire Department has not provided additional details as to how the fire may have started.
