A morning jog turned tragic in New River on Saturday when an unidentified woman was fatally struck by a fleeing motorist, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) reported.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. near the intersection of 7th Avenue and Cloud Road, according to ABC15; the woman was jogging along the road when she was hit by a vehicle which was later found by detectives, yet the driver remains at large MCSO has stated that they have acquired the suspect's vehicle but the search for the person behind the wheel is ongoing.

Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez told FOX10 Phoenix, "We have some leads into the case and detectives are actively working this investigation." Enriquez confirmed that the victim died at the scene and that the driver did not stop after the collision.

The sheriff's office is now appealing to the public for any information regarding the deadly incident anyone with knowledge is encouraged to reach out to MCSO at 602-876-8477, as the law enforcement hopes tips would guide them to the perpetrator and provide some semblance of justice in the face of an abrupt and senseless loss.
