Tragedy struck on a derelict Palm Beach County golf course when two dirt bikers collided head-on, leaving an 18-year-old dead and a 14-year-old seriously injured. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office revealed that the accident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday, at the site of the former Park Ridge Golf Course, near Lyons Road and Lantana Road in Lake Worth, as reported by WPTV.
High school student Daniel Munevar of Blistering Way in Lake Worth, was riding northbound on a KTM dirt bike when he collided with Nicholas Silva, a 14-year-old heading southbound on a Honda. The dense vegetation on the unused course obscured their view of each other, leading to the fatal encounter, the sheriff's office said, "Both drivers did not identify each other until it was too late to avoid a crash, because of vegetation in the area," according to BocaNewsNow.
Upon impact, both riders were thrown from their bikes. Munevar succumbed to his injuries at the scene while Silva was quickly transported to Delray Medical Center, where emergency surgery was performed. Silva is currently listed in serious condition, struggling in the aftermath of the collision.
Despite wearing helmets, the riders' precautions were not enough to prevent the tragedy. Munevar, described by grieving parents as a "great student, great human," is mourned by the community and leaves behind a legacy of warmth and potential unfulfilled. The investigation into the crash continues, as authorities piece together the precise circumstances of the ordeal, deputies say.
