The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has nabbed a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run case that claimed the life of a woman jogger in New River, Arizona, nearly a month ago. Authorities confirmed yesterday that 21-year-old Jacob Moore has been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred on Feb. 23, according to information obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. Moore, who turned himself in on March 18, is charged with manslaughter and failing to stop at the scene of a crash.
Lisa Mancuso, a 43-year-old jogger, was struck and killed by a pickup truck while jogging near the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Cloud Road around 10 a.m. At the scene, Mancuso was unfortunately pronounced dead. The vehicle involved was later discovered to be registered to a law enforcement officer, but the officer was quickly ruled out as being involved in the incident. It was revealed that the suspect, Moore, is a relative of the officer. This information was formally announced by the Maricopa County Sheriff, Russ Skinner, as reported by 12 News.
Skinner spoke out about the dedicated efforts of the Vehicular Crimes Detectives in the weeks following the tragic incident, saying, "Our Vehicular Crimes Detectives have worked around the clock for the past few weeks to bring justice for the Mancuso family." He also added, "While I understand this is a difficult situation for everyone involved, I'm proud of our detectives and support personnel in processing the evidence to bring closure to this investigation." This commitment to justice was reaffirmed by the MCSO's promise to continue providing traffic safety education and enforcement services throughout the county.
Further details about the case and the ongoing investigation could yet to emerge, as the MCSO has indicated the investigation into this crash is still open.
