In a tribute to a legacy of service, the Atlanta Veterans Affairs regional office is rebranded with the name of the late U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, a dedication ceremony took place on Monday, making the title official after the passing of the Senator Johnny Isakson VA Regional Office Act of 2022.

Isakson, who died in December 2021, was a respected figure in Georgian politics, having represented the state in U.S. Senate from 2005 until 2019. His tenure on the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs was marked by efforts to enhance the benefits and quality of care for veterans. VA Secretary Denis McDonough highlighted the importance of living up to the vision of the VA that Isakson dedicated his service to, ensuring an accessible, responsive veteran's center, according to an interview by Atlanta News First.

Senator Isakson's contributions weren't just confined to veteran's affairs. He was also known for his work in education and immigration policy. Senator Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., who introduced the bill, commended Isakson for his efforts to bring Republicans and Democrats together to serve not just Georgia, but the nation, saying, "It was an honor to help lead this bipartisan effort to rename the Atlanta Regional Office as the Isakson VA Atlanta Regional Office in recognition of Senator Isakson’s extraordinary service," as obtained by Atlanta News First.

The renamed Isakson VA Atlanta Regional Office, staffed by more than 600 employees, will continue serving over 689,000 veterans and their families. It provides Compensation, Veteran Readiness and Employment, and Loan Guaranty among other services, FOX 5 Atlanta reports. Senator Isakson's work will undoubtedly remain a guiding force for the office, honoring his commitment to the veteran community.

Isakson's son, John Isakson, expressed his family's appreciation at the renaming event, acknowledging the significance of his father's name on the building and the efficiency of the VA in executing the change. "Thank y’all for having us. Thank y’all for being here," he said, as mentioned by Atlanta News First, "It’s a little overwhelming to see this much attention, but obviously a big honor seeing Dad’s name on the building."
