A tow truck driver was hospitalized Saturday after being hit by a vehicle on the Everett Turnpike while tending to a disabled car in Bedford, New Hampshire. The incident, which occurred just before 8 a.m., prompted a reminder from law enforcement for motorists to exercise caution when approaching emergency and service vehicles, NBC Boston reported.
According to authorities, the unnamed driver suffered what are believed to be minor injuries. While rendering assistance on the turnpike, they became the latest in a series of service personnel endangered by inattentive or negligent drivers. Struck assisting at the scene, the driver's predicament highlights the ongoing roadside risks those in the service industry routinely face, WMUR notes.
The New Hampshire State Police issued a statement in the aftermath of the incident, underscoring a critical road safety directive. "We remind all drivers to move over when approaching stationary vehicles on the side of the road which display blue, red or amber flashing lights," they emphasized, signaling a much-needed emphasis on the "Move Over" laws designed to protect working individuals like those struck this morning.
