In an effort to bolster support for Black men and boys, Boston's Mayor Michelle Wu, alongside the Office of Black Male Advancement, declared the grant recipients for the city's 2024 Community Empowerment Grants. A total of $500,000 has been allocated to 63 community organizations, aiming to empower and ameliorate the lives of these individuals throughout Boston's neighborhoods. The funding marks a significant investment in organizations working to scale their operations and extend their reach across the city.

"We're committed to supporting community organizations that are focused on empowering and improving outcomes for Black men and boys in Boston,” Mayor Wu told Boston.gov News. These grants are poised to advance the programming and outcomes across Boston's diverse neighborhoods, enabling critical community organizations to dial up their impact.

Mariangely Solis Cervera, Boston's Chief of Equity and Inclusion, highlighted the significance of this financial commitment, stating, "Investing in the empowerment of Black men and boys across Boston means Mayor Wu stands firm on her commitment on building a truly inclusive and thriving community." Detailed on Boston.gov, the grants underscore a future where each Black man and boy can access necessary resources and support systems for their growth and success.

The Office of Black Male Advancement's Executive Director, Frank Farrow, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaborations with local community-based organizations. Farrow told Boston.gov, “The Community Empowerment grants will provide additional financial support for Boston community-based organizations to continue their invaluable efforts within our neighborhoods day in and day out.” He looks forward to witnessing the continued positive impact this will bring to the city's Black male populace.

Among the grant beneficiaries is Young Man With A Plan, which will utilize the funds to expand its mentoring and wellness programs.
