Officers from the Boston Police Department hit the jackpot when they cuffed a notorious shoplifter with a haul worth over $2,000 in merchandise from the upscale Sephora store in the Back Bay area. The arrest took a place on Thursday evening around 6:37 PM, after diligent officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) were stepping up their game on the lookout for shoplifters haunting local businesses at the Prudential Mall. According to Boston Police Department's official release, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Rafael Ramos of Braintree, didn't manage to get far before the law caught up with him.
The collar was a result of the strategic "walk and talk" operation executed by officers in response to an avalanche of shoplifting complaints. The eagle-eyed loss prevention crew at Sephora spotted Ramos making a dash without dropping dollars for his cache, promptly alerting the cops. Ramos, believed by the officers to be a repeat offender, didn't waltz too long with his illicit bounty; he entered a vehicle and attempted to leave the area only to be stopped in his tracks at 88 Exeter Street.
When Boston's finest apprehended him, they discovered numerous pilfered products accompanied by their Sephora tags, confirming their origin without a doubt. Upon inspection, the value of the stolen goods Ramos was attempting to make off with was estimated to be approximately $2,013. Ramos then found himself in handcuffs and charged with shoplifting over $1,200, a hefty sum that's bound to bring a serious headache in the courtroom.
Ramos is now slated for an arraignment at Boston Municipal Court where he'll face the music for his high-end heist.
